Working with Nancie has been instrumental in my recovery following a cycling accident that resulted in emergency surgery and an extended hospital stay. Nancie draws on multiple sources of knowledge including her own practice and study of the many dimensions of yoga, expertise in adaptive and therapeutic yoga, background as a massage therapist, and extensive understanding of human anatomy. She is a skillful teacher who responds to my individual needs from week to week. She is careful in assessing and evaluating my limitations, while inviting and challenging me to explore my edges in the service of growth and healing. She is calm, compassionate, kind, patient, creative, attentive, diligent, resourceful, & imaginative. She is always prepared with suggestions for my practice for the week and offers relevant readings and other resources to extend my exploration of yoga in all its fullness and potential. I am also involved in PT and OT; it is my work with Nancie that helps me to make the most of these other approaches. Nancie cultivates and holds a space in which I am able to attend to and integrate the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of my recovery. Nancie’s approach to her classes incorporates not only the physical aspects of yoga asana but also pranayama and the more spiritual side of a full yoga practice. Her knowledge of human anatomy and body movement are key components in her instruction that allows even beginning students a deeper understanding of their practice while at the same time inviting more advanced practitioners to safely challenge themselves.
